The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) have announced the inaugural HKMA–DFSA Joint Climate Finance Conference, which is scheduled for September 16, 2024, in Hong Kong. The conference will be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and virtual participation, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Promoting Sustainable Finance
This event serves as the flagship initiative of the HKMA–DFSA partnership, which was announced in December 2023. The conference aims to strengthen the relationship between Hong Kong and Dubai in the realm of sustainable finance. It will focus on the opportunities and challenges of transition finance, fostering practical discussions between stakeholders from both regions.
Key Discussions and Speakers
The conference will feature a fireside chat between Mr. Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the HKMA, and Mr. Ian Johnston, Chief Executive of the DFSA. High-profile speakers will lead panels on various topics, including the vision for a net-zero transition, channelling capital into transition, and the future of transition finance.
Regional Cooperation on Climate Goals
As Asia and the Middle East work towards net-zero emissions, both regions face the common challenge of reducing dependence on fossil fuels and adopting more sustainable growth models. The conference is expected to facilitate dialogue and cooperation, enabling the regions to share knowledge and strategies for achieving their climate goals.
