OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Search, a new feature that enhances its popular ChatGPT platform by providing real-time search capabilities.
Built on the advanced GPT-4o model, this tool delivers timely responses from the web for queries about sports scores, stock quotes, news, weather, and more. The rollout marks OpenAI’s latest step toward competing directly with established search engines like Google and Microsoft’s Bing.
The ChatGPT Search feature allows users to access real-time information across various topics, ranging from current events to local restaurant recommendations. Responses include both inline and sidebar attributions, offering insights from sources OpenAI has partnered with, including well-known publishers such as the Associated Press and Reuters.
Users can activate the search feature either automatically by asking a question or manually by clicking on a dedicated web search icon.
“Users can search in a more natural, intuitive way and ask follow-up questions just like in a conversation,” said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in a post. OpenAI has also incorporated publisher feedback to refine how the feature selects articles and summarizes information, aiming to enhance the user experience while respecting content sources.
