Telegram has rolled out a new update that significantly enhances video capabilities and provides a host of new tools for developers, according to Telegram. The update, announced on October 31, 2024, includes faster video loading, improved quality, and new speed controls, alongside new monetization strategies for developers and increased limits for mini apps.
Enhanced Video Features
The update introduces a dynamic video player feature for large channels, which now automatically selects the optimal video quality based on the user’s internet connection. This feature aims to save data and ensure faster video loading. Users can also manually choose between high, medium, or low quality. Additionally, iOS users can now switch to Picture-in-Picture mode more easily by swiping up while browsing chats.
For channels with thousands of subscribers, the new video quality features allow owners to post better-quality videos without needing to pre-process them. The platform will automatically optimize and compress videos into several quality levels, benefiting users on both weak and strong internet connections.
Improved Playback and Editing Capabilities
The update also simplifies the process of adjusting video playback speed. Users can now speed up videos with gestures, reaching speeds up to 2.5x without navigating through settings. Additionally, Telegram has made it easier to edit sent messages by allowing users to attach media to messages post-sending and providing timestamps for last edits.
Developer-Centric Enhancements
Telegram's latest update introduces new monetization options through Telegram Ads, which are now integrated with bots and mini apps. This initiative supports developers by sharing 50% of ad revenue, offering a new revenue stream for supporting app development. Furthermore, Telegram has increased message limits for bots, allowing up to 1000 messages per second for a small fee, with standard usage being free.
Additional Features and Improvements
Other notable updates include chat-specific hashtags, which allow group and channel owners to create hashtags that show posts only from the same chat. This is achieved by using the format #hashtag@username. Additionally, Telegram has introduced exact reaction counters, enabling users to see the precise number of reactions their posts receive.
These updates reflect Telegram’s commitment to enhancing user experience and supporting developers with innovative tools and monetization options. As the platform continues to evolve, users can expect further improvements in future updates.
